What it's like to own
The GKS Mini is a simple first electric scooter for ages 6–12: a 150 W motor, a 7.5 mph top speed and about 3.75 miles per charge. The motor only engages after a kick to about 1.5 mph, which helps beginners avoid lurching starts.
It has a metal frame, 6-inch solid tires, an electronic brake plus a rear foot brake, and carries riders up to 120 lb. It's UL 2272 and CPC (children's product) certified and sold by Amazon.
Important: one recent 1-star review says the scooter caught fire while charging in a garage after about two months. It's a single report among 7,300+ ratings, but charge any e-scooter on a hard surface, away from anything flammable, and never overnight unattended.
